Maryland weather: Baltimore expected to see more rain starting at 10 p.m.

The Baltimore area is expected to see more rainfall between 10 p.m. and midnight Saturday, with cloudy to partly cloudy conditions set to prevail through the morning hours on Sunday.

The Weather Channel, a national meteorological service, made the forecast toward the end of a day that was marked at various points by high winds, thunderstorms, and warnings of more severe weather.

Shortly after 3 p.m., the National Weather Service reported severe thunderstorms moving northeast through Baltimore County at 45 mph. The service earlier issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Baltimore, Glen Burnie and Ellicott City. That warning expired at 3:30.

The NWS defines a thunderstorm as “severe” when it produces hail that is 1 inch or larger in diameter or wind speeds that exceed 58 mph.

A tornado featuring 75-mph winds tracked through a 100-yard section of the town Poolesville in western Montgomery County earlier in the day, at about 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Poolesville is about 60 miles west of Baltimore.

The Weather Channel’s mid-afternoon forecast for Baltimore called for rainy conditions through about 7 p.m., then mostly overcast skies. The rainfall held off just long enough for the Orioles to be able to play their scheduled 7:05 p.m. game against the Detroit Tigers at Camden Yards, which turned out to be a 5-1 win by the home team.

The forecast calls for partly cloudy conditions and temperatures in the mid-50s through 5 a.m. on Sunday, then clear skies through midday.
