Maryland weather: Freezing temperatures expected at night during the week after windy Monday

Marylanders should expect freezing nights this week leading up to Christmas, according to the National Weather Service.

Following an overnight winter storm warning for wind gusts reaching 50 mph and temperatures dropping 20 degrees on Monday, Baltimore forecasters expect Tuesday to have a high temperature of 43 degrees with wind gusts as high as 36 mph without any chance of snow.

Tuesday night will dip below freezing with a low temperature of 24 degrees.

In Baltimore, the Mayor's Office of Homeless Services will be providing emergency shelter to people experiencing homelessness. Winter shelters are in effect until 9 a.m. Saturday.

Wednesday is expected to be cold as well with a high of 48 degrees and a low around 26.

Thursday is anticipated to have a high near 50 and a low around 26 at night. Forecasters expect Friday to have a high of 45 degrees and a low of 29.

The weather service expects the Baltimore area to slightly warm up Christmas weekend. Forecasters predict Saturday to have a high near 47 with a low around 32 at night.

Christmas Eve will have a high of 52, and at night, temperatures will dip to a low around 32
