Illegal fireworks incident closes streets near Marysville Boulevard, Sacramento police say

Marysville Boulevard and nearby streets in Old North Sacramento were closed Wednesday morning following a loud explosion caused by illegal fireworks, police said.

A boom was reported in the area at approximately 6:20 a.m. Police are now clearing houses to further investigate, according to a social media post by the Sacramento Police Department.

SPD confirmed that a man was taken to a hospital with a serious hand injury as a result of dealing with illegal fireworks at a home in the area.

Officer Karl Chan told The Bee the department’s bomb squad is on scene currently and will continue a “methodical” investigation. He also noted that fireworks incidents typically increase in advance of the July 4 holiday.

The SPD has no news on when Marysville Boulevard will reopen.
