When will Marzoni’s open in State College? Restaurant officials share early estimate

A sign for Marzoni’s Brick Oven & Brewing Co. hangs outside of 1215 N. Atherton St. on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022.

Marzoni’s Brick Oven & Brewing Co., a restaurant with central Pennsylvania roots, is set to open its first State College location — and fifth overall — later this summer at the former site of TGI Fridays (1215 N. Atherton St.).

Restaurant officials estimate it will open sometime between mid- to late summer, with late June likely serving as the earliest possible time for the grand opening. That estimate remains fluid, however, and is also dependent on multiple factors such as equipment delivery and employee hiring.

“We’re looking forward to being here,” Phil Sukenik, the company’s vice president of special projects, said Wednesday afternoon. “We think it’s a great fit.”

According to Sukenik, future customers can expect an awning over the patio to complement what should be a familiar environment to the other Marzoni’s locations in Altoona, Duncansville, Mechanicsburg and Selinsgrove. No beer will be brewed on the premises — it’s all brewed at the flagship in Duncansville — but the locations all share the same menu.

Marzoni’s specializes in handmade brick oven pizzas, Italian American cuisine and beer from its own microbrewery. The “family friendly restaurant,” established in 2003, also boasts at least seven signature beers on tap — with additional seasonal brews at different locations.

News of Marzoni’s move to Happy Valley first surfaced in December. The restaurant is set to replace TGI Fridays, which closed in 2020 after nearly 15 years in business.
