Mask Mandate Ending At Avon Lake Schools

AVON LAKE, OH — The Avon Lake Schools mask mandate will end Jan. 31.

"We continue to focus on keeping our students in school through in-person learning. We appreciate all of your patience and understanding as we navigate this ever-changing situation. Working together we will continue to offer the educational opportunities that students need for success," said Avon Lake Schools Superintendent Bob Scott in a letter to families.

Students and staff are still encouraged to wear masks while in buildings, but masks will no longer be required. The district continues to recommend fans and coaches wear masks at Avon Lake sporting events.

However, students will still be required to wear masks while riding Avon Lake school buses.

The district said declining COVID-19 cases allowed for the mandate to be removed. Guidance from the Lorain County Public Health also changed, allowing the district to keep more staff and students in school, Scott said in his letter.

"We will continue to closely monitor these guidelines and will make adjustments accordingly if needed. Our COVID-19 Dashboard is located on our website, and is updated daily as needed," he added in the letter.
