Mask Up Milford: New Advisory From Board Of Health
MILFORD, MA — The Milford Board of Health on Monday issued an advisory urging face masks in all public places in town — a response to the surge of new cases seen locally and across the region.
"This action is in response to recent increases in confirmed COVID-19 cases in Milford, its surrounding communities, and Worcester County as a whole," the board said in a short statement.
Earlier in December, Milford began requiring masks in all government buildings like town hall and the Milford Youth Center. But the new advisory extends to all other public spaces, like restaurants and stores.
On Monday, state health officials reported closed to 14,000 new cases statewide over the weekend and 28 new deaths. The dominant delta strain of coronavirus is quickly being replaced by the likely more contagious omicron variant, according to health experts.
Milford alone added about 250 cases over the past two weeks, according to state data.
Milford's mask advisory applies to everyone over age two, including people who have been vaccinated and boosted.
