Martine McCutcheon’s son was stunned as he watched his mum unmasked on his “favourite” show The Masked Singer.

During Saturday (9 January) night’s show, fans had speculated about the identity of Swan, suggesting that Amanda Holden or Ashley Roberts could be behind the mask after the contestant performed “I Am What I Am” from the musical La Cage aux Folles.

Swan found herself in the bottom two with Sausage, and was revealed as McCutcheon after being voted off, confirming Jonathan Ross’s suspicions.

Thanking fans for their support later on Saturday night, the actor and singer shared an adorable video to social media as she watched the unmasking at home with her five-year-old son Rafferty, who had no idea that his mum was behind the mask.

Chanting along with the judges cries of “take it off”, McCutcheon’s unveiling elicited a gasp from her son, saying in shock as he hugged her: “What? Mummy! Oh my god, what?”

“@MaskedSingerUK Thank you so much for having me! The most amazing project to be part of! Huge! Thank you to the whole team - what a brilliant bunch people to work with! I've never known an operation like it,” she captioned the post.

“I didn’t get to sing a big ballad but I DID get to be a showgirl and also surprise Rafferty by being on one of his favourite ever shows,” she continued.

“Bless him he was so proud and not being able to breathe and getting backache from the huge heavy wired swan sculpture was all worth it! I can’t believe I managed to keep it a secret!”

The Masked Singer returns Saturday 16 January at 7pm on ITV.
