The Masked Singer US spoilers follow.

The Masked Singer US has unveiled the identity of another contestant – this time the five-piece California Roll.

The group performed Kelly Clarkson song 'Breakaway' during the recent semi-final episode also featuring Medusa and Macaw. The three finalists all faced off against each other in the Battle Royale, each performing their own take on Bruno Mars' 'Runaway Baby'.

Ultimately, California Roll didn't make it through the final vote, eventually being unmasked as a cappella group Pentatonix.

Judges Robin Thicke and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg both guessed the group's identity, whereas Ken Jeong believed the singers to be the cast of In The Heights, and Nicole Scherzinger thought it was the cast of Pitch Perfect.

Before leaving the stage, the group – made up of Scott Hoying, Kristin Maldonado, Mitch Grassi, Kevin Olusola and Matt Sallee – treated the audience to one more a capella rundown.

On their unmasking, Hoying explained the group tried to steer clear of their signature harmonies to avoid their identities being rumbled (via Variety): "We could hide the iconic Pentatonix harmony sound for at least a minute. For the first minute, I was trying to really change my voice.

"But it didn't work, because every comment on every video was like: 'I knew from the beginning it was Pentatonix and it was confirmed as soon as they all came in. We know that sound so much.' But honestly it was a compliment. It was very flattering to know that we can't even hide our voice because it's become part of what people have heard for so many years."

Olusola explained why the group appeared as pieces of sushi: "We love sushi, absolutely love it, and we eat it very often on tour. And we just felt that one long piece of sushi that everybody loves, but to cut it up into five pieces that you want the whole and you can enjoy the individual parts as well. That's very much a theme within our band."

This episode leaves Macaw and Medusa to battle it out in the final, with only one being crowned the winner of The Masked Singer US and taking home the Golden Mask trophy.

The Masked Singer US season 9 airs on Fox, while The Masked Singer UK airs on ITV1.
