Maskless revellers celebrate end of Barcelona curfew

In Barcelona, police dispersed hundreds of people dancing and drinking near the central "Arc de Triomf" monument.

Scenes of maskless crowds dancing close together and drinking in the streets of cities like the Catalan capital and Madrid have sparked outrage among some members of the population and concern from politicians and the medical and scientific community.

One of Europe's worst-hit nations, Spain has suffered at least 78,792 coronavirus deaths and had 3.6 million cases.

But infection rates have fallen and vaccinations are progressing fast, enabling most of the 17 regions to scrap the curfew.
