Mason Madsen will remain a Bearcat

Apr. 22—Mason Madsen is staying in Cincinnati.

The 2020 Mayo High School graduate played his freshman season of men's basketball at the University of Cincinnati and then announced he was entering the transfer portal. But after viewing his options, Madsen has decided to return to Cincinnati.

His twin brother, Gabe Madsen, also played for Cincinnati as a freshman, but Gabe transferred to Utah following the 2021 season.

Mason Madsen, a 6-foot-3 guard, overcame injuries at the start of the 2021 season to flourish as a freshman. He missed the team's first eight games before joining the team and earning a regular spot in the rotation.

Madsen started getting more playing time as the season progressed and he came off the bench to average 6.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game over the final 15 contests. He scored a season-high 19 points in the regular-season finale and then had a 10-point outing in the AAC tournament semifinals when the fifth-seeded Bearcats knocked off No. 1 Wichita State.

Cincinnati then lost to Houston in the AAC title game and finished the season 13-12.

Gabe Madsen, a 6-5 guard, played two games early in the season for Cincinnati and averaged 1.5 points and 1.0 rebounds per game. He then opted out for the rest of the season.
