A little over a week after the resignation/retirement of long-time basketball coach Greg Richards, Mason High School has named a replacement. Adam Toohey will become their next varsity boys basketball head coach, pending board approval.

Toohey has been the Tippecanoe High School boys head coach for the past five seasons (since April 2017).

He led the Red Devils to Miami Valley League titles in 2020, 2021, and 2022.  Under his leadership, Tippecanoe won a Division II District title in 2020 with a 21-2 record and a No. 4 ranking in the state.

“Our family is thankful for our time in Tipp City;, we love the folks in that town,” said Toohey.  “We are excited to return to Mason, and I’m thrilled to have a chance to lead this special program!”

Toohey earned District 9 Coach of the Year honors twice while at Tippecanoe.  His resume includes assistant basketball coaching stints at Cincinnati Christian Hills Academy (2014-2017) and Monroe High School (2010-2012).

The new Comets chief will be a familiar face, as he was part of the staff at Mason High School for several years as an intervention specialist, a role he will resume upon his return.  His wife Anne was also previously on staff at Mason and will be a career specialist at Scarlet Oaks this fall.  They have two children, JJ (5) and Jack (4).

Toohey inherits a team that was 10-13 last season. In Feb. 2021 the Comets defeated Tippecanoe 72-57.
