Michael Williams' journey on "American Idol" officially came to an end.

After making the top 20 Sunday night and following up the achievement with a performance of "Lose You To Love Me" by Selena Gomez, the Mason native and former Kings Island entertainer did not receive enough votes to advance to the top 12 Monday. Instead, Williams' landed in the danger zone, and sang “Golden Hour” by JVKE for one of two wildcard spots.

The 21-year-old received a standing ovation from judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Perry added that the people who didn't vote for him were "jealous" of him.

But the encouraging words from the "California Gurls" pop star were not enough to save the Greater Cincinnati native, as he and eight other contestants were eliminated.

During his time on the show, Williams, who also appeared on NBC's "The Voice" in 2020, performed "Talking to the Moon" by Bruno Mars for his audition. He also sang "Tuesday" by Jake Scott and "Angels Like You" by Miley Cyrus.

"American Idol" airs at 8 p.m. Sundays and Mondays on WCPO 9 (WCPO-TV), Cincinnati's ABC affiliate. Episodes can also be streamed on Hulu, YouTube TV, FuboTV and the ABC website.
