Mass. man to install pool after winning $1M prize on ticket he bought on way home from Easter Mass

A Massachusetts man says he plans to improve his home and install a swimming pool after he won a $1 million prize on a scratch ticket he stopped to buy on the way home from Easter Mass.

Edward Richards, of Haverhill, recently became the fourth $1 million prize winner in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s “Billion Dollar Extravaganza” instant ticket game, Lottery officials said.

Richards told the Lottery that he had attended Easter Mass on Saturday night and that after being blessed with holy water, he felt that he needed to buy some scratch tickets.

Richards, who was joined at Mass Lottery headquarters by his daughters, chose the cash option on his prize and received a one-time payment of $650,000.

He purchased the ticket at Richdale Convenience on West Main Street in Georgetown.

The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for the sale of this ticket.
