Mass. teen charged with drunken boating after crash near NH yacht club

A 19-year-old from Massachusetts is accused of being drunk when he crashed a boat on Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire.

Police say Michael Smith, of Hingham, was behind the wheel of a boat that went about 20 feet ashore, resting on a steep hill in trees and brush.

The crash happened Saturday around 10 p.m. near the Lake Sunapee Yacht Club, according to New Hampshire State Police. Police say the impact could be heard across the lake at Blodgett Landing in Newbury, N.H.

Smith and another person were still in the boat when emergency crews arrived. Both were uninjured.

Smith was arrested and charged with boating while intoxicated.
