MASSACHUSETTS —The state Department of Public Health reported 14 new coronavirus deaths Sunday, bringing the total number of Massachusetts residents to die of COVID-19 to 9,001.
The daily report on Sunday wasn't all grim news, however. The state's seven-day positive test rate was 0.8 percent for the second day in a row, after having been 0.9 percent from Sept. 1 through Thursday.
The average number of coronavirus hospitalizations fell to 325 in Sunday's report, down from 339 the previous day. The number of hospitals using surge capacity to treat coronavirus patients fell to one from two in Sunday's report.
The state reported 267 new coronavirus cases Sunday. Since the first confirmed case on Feb. 1, 122,904 Massachusetts residents have tested positive for the virus.
