Massachusetts high school playoffs: MIAA winter tournament pairings and scores

The brackets are here. On Saturday, the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) has released each team’s seeding and initial schedule for the state basketball and ice hockey playoffs, giving firm postseason placement for programs in the MetroWest and Milford area.

Across the state, the Commonwealth’s version of March Madness is set to begin. After 12 go-rounds of the 2022-23 MIAA winter power ratings, we have our finished product. There are 15 local teams we could consider among the favorites to take home hardware (top 10 in their respective divisions) with many others also in the conversation.

In boys basketball, we have Franklin (18-1, No. 3 in Division 1), Dover-Sherborn (16-4, No. 6 in Division 3) and Hopedale (16-4, No. 3 in Division 5). In girls basketball, there are a half-dozen teams seeded in the top 10 in their respective divisions, including Framingham (14-6, No. 6 in Division 1), Wayland (17-4, No. 10 in Division 2), Dover-Sherborn (14-6, No. 5 in Division 3), Hudson (19-2, No. 7 in Division 3), Medway (10-10, No. 8 in Division 3) and Millis (12-8, No. 1 in Division 5).

In boys hockey, we have Algonquin (13-5-2, No. 7 in Division 2), Hopkinton (16-4, No. 8 in Division 2), Watertown/Wayland (11-6-3, No. 5 in Division 3), Marlborough (12-5-2, No. 6 in Division 3) and Ashland (10-10, No. 10 in Division 4) leading the pack. On the girls hockey side, the defending state champion Algonquin co-op (16-3-1) is No. 5 in Division 2. The Titans will host No. 28 Natick in a Round of 32 matchup.
