Massachusetts ranked as 2023′s best state for working moms

Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and Massachusetts has been ranked as 2023′s best state for working moms.

Women make up nearly half of the U.S. workforce, and 73% of moms with children under age 18 were working in 2022.

According to a new study by Wallet Hub, The Bay State is the best place for working moms.

Wallet Hub compared the attractiveness of each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia for a working mother based on 17 key metrics. The data set ranges from the median women’s salary to the female unemployment rate to daycare quality.

Massachusetts received a score of 66.20 and working moms in the state have the best work-life balance.

Here is how life as a working mom pans out in Massachusetts (1=Best; 25=Avg.):

  • 17th – Day-Care Quality

  • 25th – Pediatricians per Capita

  • 20th – Gender Pay Gap (Women’s Earnings as % of Men’s)

  • 18th – Ratio of Female Executives to Male Executives

  • 20th – Median Women’s Salary (Adjusted for Cost of Living)

  • 1st – Female Unemployment Rate

  • 1st – Parental-Leave Policy Score

  • 5th – Avg. Length of Woman’s Work Week (in Hours)

  • 7th – % of Single-Mom Families in Poverty

Four other New England states including Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont, and Maine were in the top 10 best states for working moms
