Massachusetts voters have a chance to be heard in the November 8 midterm election through early voting beginning this Saturday, October 22. Voters can cast a ballot in person or by mail through Nov. 4.

In Massachusetts, each city and town sets its own voting locations and the hours for each location. However, each city and town is required to offer early voting for a minimum number of hours. The state requires that early voting begins 17 days before state biennial elections and 10 days before presidential or state primary elections.

Voters have to choose their next governor of the Commonwealth between Democratic candidate Maura Healey and Republican candidate Geoff Diehl.

Healey has been serving as the Massachusetts Attorney General since her re-election in 2014. Prior to her current role, Healy served as chief of the Civil Rights Division, where she spearheaded the state’s challenge to the federal Defense of Marriage Act. She was then appointed chief of the Public Protection and Advocacy Bureau and then chief of the Business and Labor Bureau before resigning in 2013.
