Massachusetts Wildlife crews help free a coyote pup’s head from a plastic container

Members of a wildlife rehabilitation facility in Clemsford helped save a baby coyote after its head was stuck in a plastic container.

Massachusetts Animal Control was called to help a male pup, which had its head stuck in a plastic container for at least two days in the area of Billerica and Tewksbury, said Newhouse Wildlife Rescue.

On Tuesday, Newhouse Wildlife employees and Massachusetts Environmental Police Officer Dewayne Taylor were able to find the coyote, capture him and remove the container from his head.

The wildlife rescue said the young pup was in shock, his gums were pale and he was a bit disoriented and dehydrated, so they brought him back to their facility for extra care before reuniting him with his family.

On Wednesday morning the rescue posted an update to its Facebook page saying the coyote pup was feeling much better.

The person who notified officials about the struggling pup told the resue that its parents were still around and where to find them. The pup was reunited with them on Wednesday.

“It took a village, but this guy’s life was saved because of it,” the rescue wrote.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
