Massive Ocean County Forest Fire Now 100% Contained

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

UKEE WASHINGTON: Well, a forest fire in Ocean County that charred about 170 acres is now 100% contained. And all roads in that area are open once again.

JESSICA KARTALIJA: That fire started yesterday afternoon in Lakewood near Airport Road and Cedar Bridge Avenue. The fire was so intense it crossed the Garden State Parkway. Two commercial structures were destroyed. Some homes have minor damage.

GREG MCLAUGHLIN: Most all of the residents were returned to their homes last night. They are safe. They were comfortable. They took a nice, deep breath and were thankful that this wasn't a larger catastrophe. No structures, in terms of homes, were lost. Two commercial structures were lost. Several sheds, fences, a boat was destroyed.

JESSICA KARTALIJA: One firefighter was injured and is hospitalized in critical condition. The cause of that fire is under investigation.
