Massive rezoning project near Ballantyne including new CMS school up for vote

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A rezoning project near Ballantyne will be up for a vote by the Charlotte City Council, but some residents are asking the council to delay the vote.

There are several issues that people living around Tom Short Road say need to be worked out. Like having continuous sidewalks, widening the road to handle all the traffic, and concerns with flooding. The Cato Trails project is 124 acres just north of Ardrey Kell Road.

The residential part of the plan calls for 211 townhomes, 24 single-family homes, and 682 apartments. There is also a plan to build a new middle school which will be in the CMS district.

Some people living in the area have written to the city council saying there are still more infrastructure issues the developer needs to address. Others feel there are traffic issues on Tom Short Road that need to be addressed before building starts, like possibly widening the road because traffic in the area is already heavy with three subdivisions.

There is also a call to keep the suburban character and continuity of the community intact.

Charlotte City Council will take up the issue at its meeting Monday night, April 15.
