Master Sgt. Joe Witfoth retires from Marine Corps

Joe Witfoth of Temperance retired from the Marine Corps Dec. 1. He had attained the rank of master sergeant.

A 1990 graduate of Bedford High School, he is the son of Jerry and Debbie Witfoth. He is married to the former Janel Jennings. They have two daughters, Ciara Witfoth and Kaylee Witfoth.

Witfoth enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1991 and was in active duty until 1999. He was in the Marine Corps Reserve from 2001-22.

During his career, he was part of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California, 1st Battalion; Marine Combat Training Camp Pendleton, California; Electronics and Communications, Twentynine Palms, California; 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division; 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division; 2nd Amphibious Assault Battalion, 2nd Marine Division; Communication Squadron, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing; Marksmanship Training Unit, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing; Weapons Company 1/24; Marine Wing Communications Squadron, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing; 1/24 Communications, 4th Marine Division; and 3/25 Communications, 4th Marine Division.

He served in Sardinia, Puerto Rico, Somalia, Cuba, Israel, Greece, Italy, Haiti (off-shore) and Bosnia (off-shore).

His jobs included communications chief and small arms weapons instructor.

He is currently a network administrator for WGTE Public Media of Toledo.
