Master Teague carted off field, suffers low ankle sprain at Pittsburgh Steelers practice

Master Teague III suffered an injury scare during a Pittsburgh Steelers practice Tuesday afternoon.

The former Ohio State running back fell awkwardly during the 11-on-11 period of practice after being tackled by cornerback Chris Steele. After attempting to walk off the field with a limp, Teague was carted off the field.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said after practice that Teague suffered a low ankle sprain and is day-to-day.

Teague was signed by the Steelers Aug. 3 when the team placed Jeremy McNichols on Injury reserve. In his short time with the team, he was already turning heads, trucking a defensive player during a one-on-one drill.

Teague was previously signed by the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent shortly after the 2022 NFL draft, but was cut after the team's three-day rookie camp.

Entering the Buckeyes' program as a four-star running back in the 2018 class, he amassed 1,764 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns, averaging 5.5 yards per carry. Teague was a second-team All-Big Ten selection in 2020 after being a member of the third team in 2019.

In his first three seasons, Teague helped Ohio State to three Big Ten Championships and played in two College Football Playoffs.

Teague hopes to follow in the footsteps of the three other former Ohio State running backs currently in the NFL: Ezekiel Elliott with the Dallas Cowboys, J.K. Dobbins with the Baltimore Ravens and Trey Sermon with the San Francisco 49ers.
