It's always sad to see contestants eliminated on MasterChef, but one contestant had a feeling her time on the show would come to a premature end after serving undercooked chicken.

Ottilie presented to John Torode and Gregg Wallace chicken thighs with a sweet potato, white bean, and chorizo stew, saffron rice, and asparagus with smoked garlic butter.

The dish sounded and looked great. But as the judges pointed out, it had one glaring problem.

It was still raw.

"I can't eat that," John said, commenting on the chicken.

Gregg added: "Sweet potatoes into the stew is a new one on me, but I like it because it's completely broken down and given more sweetness to a sweet potato stew. But as you can clearly see, not only is the chicken skin not cooked but the chicken itself is not cooked."

Ottilie said afterwards: "After that chicken, I think I'm a goner.

"I'm cross that it was such a rookie error. But I'm pleased it wasn't a total and utter disaster, and they liked some bits."

Viewers of the show were quick to share their thoughts on social media. Some saw the funny side, while others described the dish as 'salmonella chicken'.

Ottilie was eliminated later in the episode.

She commented that she wasn't surprised, but enjoyed the experience nonetheless.

"You can't do undercooked chicken on MasterChef," she said. "I'm just pleased that I did it, but a little bit 'argh' about some of the slip-ups."

MasterChef airs on BBC One.
