Masters betting: Bettors keep flocking to Tiger Woods ahead of his golf return
More and more people are betting on Tiger Woods to win the Masters.
Woods is at +5000 to win the tournament in his first full tournament since his 2021 car crash. More than a dozen players have better odds to win the tournament than the five-time Masters champion, but those long odds may be enticing bettors to place their money on Woods.
As of Wednesday, Woods is still the most-bet player at BetMGM to win the Masters. On Monday, Woods was getting 7.6% of bets at the sportsbook. That share has now increased to 12.4% and Woods has gotten more than twice the bets of any other player.
His good friend Justin Thomas (+1200) is the second-most bet player to win the tournament but Thomas is getting just 5.7% of the bets. World No. 1 player Scottie Scheffler is third at 5.3% of bets.
A plurality of the money is also going towards Woods. Early Masters money was heading towards Brooks Koepka (+2000) on Monday as Koepka had 11% of the handle. Two days later, Koepka sits at 6.6% of the total money wagered on the winner. Woods is at nearly 15% of the handle while Thomas is second with 7% of the money wagered.
Just six golfers are getting at least 4% of the bets ahead of the start of the tournament on Thursday. Koepka is getting 4.9% of bets while Cam Smith (+1400) is at 4.6% and tournament favorite Jon Rahm (+1100) is at 4% of bets.
Smith and Sam Burns are the most-bet players to be leading at the end of Thursday. Smith is getting 8.8% of the money to lead after the first round on 4.4% of the bets while Burns is getting 4.6% of bets and 4.9% of the money. Smith won the Players Championship in March and Burns won the Valspar Championship a week later.
