Matson, Wolak lead locals at District 10 Golf Championships

Oct. 2—Grove City senior Toby Matson and Slippery Rock junior Jacob Wolak led the way for the locals on the opening day of the District 10 Boys Golf Championships at The Country Club of Meadville on Friday.

Saegertown senior Dylan Flinchbaugh fired a 74 and is in first place with Round 2 slated for Saturday. Union City junior Josh James (76) is 2nd.

They are followed by Corry senior Maxx Rimdzius (76), Matson (77), and Wolak (77).

Also advancing to Day 2 of the tourney are Mercer junior Eli Ellison (84) and Slippery Rock senior Jack Hadley (84).

Locals who missed the cut: Grove City junior Tyler Hamilton (87), Greenville freshman Brandon Stubert (89), Lakeview freshman Adam Snyder (89), Hickory juniors Aidan Enoch (89) and Ryan Brown (92), Jamestown senior Aidan Swezey (92), Grove City junior Ethan Cunningham (92), Greenville junior Nate Stuyvesant (93), Lakeview sophomore Jackson Gadsby (93), Hickory junior Zac Lanshak (94), West Middlesex junior Luke Mild (101), and Greenville senior Ty Csonka (106).

Union City captured the District 10 Class 2A team title and McDowell won the 3A crown.

Hadley and Ellison tee off at 9:50 a.m. Saturday, Wolak at 10:20 a.m. and Matson at 10:30 a.m.

In the girls tourney Saturday, Hickory's Ava Liburdi tees off at 10 a.m., Hickory's McKenzie Gustas, Wilmington's KaitlyncHoover, and Grove City's Emily Donahue at 10:10 a.m., and Hickory's Luciana Masters and Sasha Petrochko tee off at 10:20 a.m.

The Hickory girls captured the program's second District 10 team title at Meadville on Thursday.

Petrochko (70) is the 1st-round leader while Masters (76) is 4th and Gustas (77) is 5th. Hoover shot a 79 on Thursday, Donahue carded an 81, and Liburdi an 85.

In Class 2A, the top 8 boys and 4 girls finishers advance to the state competition, though more could advance depending on scores from other districts.
