Matt Buckler: 'Capitol Report' is one-of-a-kind news show

Oct. 3—The amount of local news coverage in the state continues to grow — WTIC-TV61, for example, is getting ready to add a 6 p.m. newscast to its local content.

There is really only one show, however, where the news is debated and analyzed from both sides of the aisle — the left side and the right side. "The Capitol Report," hosted by Tom Dudchik, which airs Sunday at 10:30 a.m. is unique — it's a show featuring liberals and conservatives where the people actually respect each other — there are no shouting matches. And on several occasions, they actually agree with each other — if only real politics could be that harmonious.

After cutting back on the panel size during the pandemic, the show is back at full strength with four members. Sunday's panel included Bloomfield mayor Danielle Wong and former legislator Joe Aresimowicz representing the left and analyst Liz Kurantowicz and radio host Lee Elci representing the right. With the state elections about one month away, Sunday's talking points centered around the upcoming election for governor.

Dudchik keeps the show moving — he makes sure everyone gets an opportunity to comment. That's because debate can be entertaining, and "The Capitol Report" proves it.
