Matt Corral suffers 'significant' foot injury in Carolina Panthers preseason game

Carolina Panthers quarterback Matt Corral suffered a lisfranc injury in his left foot in Friday's preseason game at New England, an injury coach Matt Rhule on Saturday called significant.

NFL Network reported Saturday that the injury would likely end Corral's rookie season, though Rhule did not commit to a timeline.

The injury occurred when Corral had his left foot stepped on in the second half. He was scheduled to play the final two possessions against the Patriots but did not do so, leaving the locker room after the game with a boot on his left foot following X-rays. An MRI on Saturday in Charlotte revealed the damage to his left foot, the team said.

Corral's development in his first NFL preseason has taken a backseat to the Panthers starting quarterback battle between Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold. The former Ole Miss star was 10-of-24 passing for 69 yards in the Panthers' first two preseason games.
