Matt Lucas and David Walliams to reunite for first Little Britain sketch in 12 years

Matt Lucas and David Walliams are to bring back Little Britain for BBC charity fundraiser Big Night In.

Over a decade since the show last aired, Lucas and Walliams are set to reunite with a new Little Britain sketch for the charity event, which airs on 23 April and supports Comic Relief and Children in Need.

The three-hour special will see Catherine Tate reprise her iconic character of schoolgirl Lauren, with a guest appearance from David Tennant, while Peter Kay is also set to make his return to TV for the show.

Running from 2003-2008, Little Britain was hugely popular but often deemed controversial by critics who argued Lucas and Walliams’ character portrayals were racist, sexist and homophobic.

The pair returned in 2019 for a one-off radio episode titled Little Brexit and recently teased a potential revival of the show, with Lucas saying on The One Show: “We message each other most days and send each other those silly memes that everybody sends.

“We are getting on well and we are thinking about what we can do with Little Britain. But we don’t know what it will be. Could it be a podcast? Could it be a series on TV? Could it be a stage show? We have just got to find the time but definitely we will do. We are not 100 per cent sure but we will.”

Lucas was recently announced as the new presenter of The Great British Bake Off, while Walliams serves as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent.
