Matt Smith Stars In Exclusive Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Clip

After making his name playing everyone’s favourite Time Lord in ‘Doctor Who’ Matt Smith is branching out into Hollywood, and if this clip from ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ is anything to go by, he has a bright future ahead of him.

He plays Parson Collins in this new twist on Jane Austen’s seminal novel of manners that - as you probably guessed from the title - throws the living dead into the mix. He’s arrived at the fortified Bennet home to choose a bride, but it seems his affections are misplaced.

This exclusive clip from the film that hits UK cinemas on 11 February shows the buffoonish Collins declaring his love for Jane (Bella Heathcote), the eldest of the eligible Bennet sisters.

“I declare that I am enchanted by your daughter Jane,” he proclaims, “and request to speak to her alone. If I may?”

Mrs. Bennet, the matriarch of the family played by Sally Phillips, explains that Jane is already betrothed to another, prompting an excellently befuddled response from the clergyman.

The mother then suggests Elizabeth (Lily James) as a potential alternative, and Charles Dance’s Mr Bennet steps in to warn Collins, “be mindful of your talent for the delicate compliment, sir”.

It’s a great clip that shows Austen’s wit has survived the zombie apocalypse.

‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ is based on Seth Grahame Green’s 2009 parody mash up novel of the same name and also stars Sam Riley, Jack Huston, Douglas Booth, and Suki Waterhouse.
