Busted star Matt Willis has revealed that he will share details about his battle with addiction in his new BBC documentary, Matt Willis: Addiction and Me.

The singer announced the news in a statement on Instagram this week, writing: "Hello everyone my names Matt and I am an Addict [sic]. I have said that so many times in the last 18 years it has sometimes become my default when I have to introduce myself.

"You would think after this amount of time in some kind of recovery. (A lot of in and out) I would know how to deal with my head? But that sneaky bastard still f**ks with me almost daily."

He shared that he still struggles with his addiction sometimes, but added: "I’m determined to look at how myself and others can learn to live with this...

"In a new doc I'm making, Matt Willis: Addiction and Me I'm going to be opening up about the past, and my battle with addiction to drugs and alcohol, and how it can still be a daily struggle," he added, noting that he was grateful to the BBC for helping him "help get addicts and families of addicts the help they so desperately need".

The BBC confirmed that the documentary "will look back at some of Matt’s darkest days as he begins to explore what could be behind his addiction" as he speaks to others, including experts and other addicts, to better understand things.

Willis, who is married to TV presenter Emma Willis, previously opened up about his addictions back in 2019, admitting that he believes he can trace things back as far back as 7 years old.

"I was mildly asthmatic as a kid and I used to hide under my duvet and take as many hits of my inhaler as I possibly could when I was about 7 because it would make my head throb, make my lips tingle," he explained at the time on The Naked Professors podcast.

"I'd be getting high in my bed at 7 years old so I have always had this in me to find ways to get away from dealing with who I am and how I feel."
