Matters of Graves Importance: Celebrate all that is Halloween this week

No town throws a Halloween party like Chillicothe. Downtown, Frenchtown, the ENTIRE town and beyond…if you can’t find something to stumble into this weekend we can’t help you. And parents, mark your calendars. The downtown trick-or-treat is happening from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 28 with the Jaycees Halloween Parade beginning at 7 p.m. The city-wide treat night is on Oct. 31, RAIN OR SHINE (I know some of you freak out at the thought of your kids getting wet), from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Thursday

All Things Halloween Trivia Night at Old Capitol Brewing begins at 6:30 p.m. OCB also will have R Kitchen Custom Catering set up out front to make you delicious food.

The Pour House at Machinery Hall presents Witches Night Out from 6 to 9 p.m. featuring special witchy drinks and an all-day happy hour. Joseph, Barnes, Barnes, and Thacker will be playing for the first time at The Page at 7 p.m. Expect a new fall menu when you go.

Friday

Dickey's Barbecue Pit is hosting its inaugural Halloween party including costume prizes and karaoke with DJ Roush. The fun is from 5 to 11 p.m.

The 8th annual Dead Celebrity Ball will be held at Steiner's Speakeasy with a costume contest and prizes of $100 for the top two costumes. There will also be party swag and other activities all beginning at 9 p.m.

Ben True takes the taproom stage at Old Capitol Brewing at 7 p.m.

Wagner’s Roadhouse Halloween Costume Contest & Glow Party is from 7 p.m. to midnight. DJ Roush will be providing the music and there will be prizes for the best costumes. Admission is free.

The Crosskeys Tavern's Super Duper Spoopy Halloween Party is from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. There will be live music by THICC BOIS and Garage Fire, costume contests, a scream contest, and a THICC BOIS T-shirt raffle.

Heroes Pub Pizza & Subs on Blain Highway is having a Halloween costume contest and karaoke from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. with the costume contest starting at 10 p.m. There will be prizes for the best overall costume, the most original costume, the best male costume, the best female costume, and the best couple costume.

Patrick's Pub hosts Nightmare Before Christmas for their party with a people’s choice costume contest at 11 p.m. The Fifty West Brewing Company costume contest is all about being photogenic. To enter, visit their photo area and have your costume photographed. Photos will be displayed throughout the day, and the winner will receive a $50 gift card to the brewery.

Saturday

Old Capitol Brewing is throwing its Halloween party from 7 to 11 p.m. There will be a costume contest, live music by Hey Alveh & The Night Caps, and a signature drink called "Old Capitol Punch" or code name, OCP.

The Basement Collective joins the downtown fun and will be performing at The Crosskeys Tavern at 8 p.m. Booze and Boos begins at 9 p.m. with DJ Trai at the Cozy Inn Bar & Grill and goes until 2 a.m.

Looking ahead

The Pioneer School will host its annual craft bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4 at 11268 County Road 550. This year's bazaar will feature a variety of crafts and gifts from over 60 local vendors. There will also be basket raffles, a 50/50 raffle, and food trucks.
