Matters of Graves Importance: Driver be careful with Buck Fifty this weekend

Be safe out there this weekend on our Ross County roads. Lately, Charleston Pike has been like taking a redneck safari. Drive it at dawn or dusk and tell me I am wrong. Last time I drove down the Pike I saw deer, a fox, two groundhogs, and an unfortunate little squirrel that should have looked both ways before crossing the road. Adding to the native wildlife this weekend will be the Buck Fifty runners. Make sure on whatever local roads you choose to travel that you are mindful of the people who will be out there putting in miles to raise money for kids in our community.

Tonight you will find award-winning Appalachia country blues singer/songwriter from Hocking Hills Micah Kesselring at Steiner's Speakeasy at 7 p.m. Chillicothe’s Cameron Mitchell is taking over the trivia mic for me at Stockroom601 in Jackson at 7:30 p.m. You can find Name That Tune at Dickey's Barbecue at 6 p.m. with DJ Roush.

Friday Old Capitol Brewing welcomes Murphy to their taproom from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Steiner’s Speakeasy presents Corduroy Brown and Ben Davis Jr. at 9 p.m. Brown is making his debut performance at the Speakeasy and Ben returns as his opener. DJ Roush will have songs lined up for you to sing karaoke at Wagner’s at 7 p.m. Fifty West Brewing Company will host a Mario Kart Tourney at 7 p.m. Entry is $5. The tournament will be bracket-style with a double elimination. The winner will take 80% of the pool, second place will get 20%, and third place will receive stickers and a koozie.

If you haven’t seen Davey and the Midnights in person at Steiner's your chance is Saturday. They are self-described storytellers with a touch of folk fiasco and they are heading our way from Indiana. Showtime is 8 p.m. Wagner’s Roadhouse is ready for Caden Glover to take their stage from 8 to 11 p.m. The Brew Brothers will play the Buck Fifty After Party at the Cozy Inn Bar & Grill starting at 9 p.m.

Early next week on Monday, April 24 get your karaoke on at the Wobbly Ghost with DJ Roush at 10 p.m. and on Tuesday enjoy the music of local favorite Brian Douglas Day and JT Hillier at Steiner’s at 7 p.m.

Looking ahead…LoriG Comedy and The Pour House at Machinery Hall are teaming up once again to bring you The Newlywed (and the not so newlywed) Game on May 6th at 8 pm. Make a reservation ASAP to secure your seat for this fun night.

Email lorigcomedy@gmail.com and tell us why we should pick you and your spouse as contestants. Entries must be received by April 22. The NW round in the past has included couples married around 10 years or less so go ahead and apply no matter how long you have been married.

On Wednesday, Aug. 9 LoriG Comedy and the Ross County Fair present Comedy Night with Donnie Baker and Jay Snyder. Hosted by me. Tickets are $15/20 and are available by visiting rosscountyfair.com. Showtime is 8 p.m. and gates open at 7 p.m. This is an 18 and up event.

Until next time. I hope to see you out and laughing.
