Matters of Graves Importance: First Capital Cookout, Red, White, and Blue Ice Cream Social this week

Happy July 4th week! First Capital Rotary presents its July First Thursday First Capital Cookout tonight in the Majestic Theatre courtyard. The featured food vendors are The Pour House at Machinery Hall, Dairy Queen, Fifty West Brewing, Giovanni's, Taesty's, Texas Roadhouse, The Dock, and the Haute Doggerie. Festivities begin at 5 p.m. Name that Tune & Karaoke happen at Dickey’s Barbecue Pit from 6 to 10 p.m. with DJ Roush. This week it is “wear your favorite band t-shirt” for a chance to win prizes.

The opening reception for the new exhibition at The Pump House Center for the Arts, “Rocking Horse: A Journey Through Mental Health” will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday. Cleveland artist Craig Matis has designed what he calls "songbooks" where the viewer will be able to view the image while listening to Craig's recorded music via QR code. This is a one-of-a-kind exhibit you need to experience. Come meet Craig Friday and experience this unique exhibition. Pointless Fest VIII begins Friday at 3 p.m. in Bourneville. There is a $15 admission with free camping. This BYOB event features 18 bands in its two-day run. Check out their Facebook page for more details. Old Capitol Brewing hosts Flashback at 7 p.m. in their taproom.

Join LoriG Comedy for an evening of hilarious stand-up comedy at First Capital Enterprises with Shelterhouse Laughs on Saturday, July 8. Comics include Brian Harris, Misty Vacariello, Mark Perkins, and (me) headliner Lori Graves. Up In Smoke food truck will be on-site starting at 7 p.m. Showtime is 8 p.m. Tables for six are $50 and single tickets are $12. Tickets are on sale on Eventbrite and can be located by searching Shelterhouse Laughs. The Basement Collective takes over the Steiner's Speakeasy patio (inside if it rains) at 8 p.m. Adena Mansion and Gardens will host its annual Red, White, and Blue Ice Cream Social at the picnic pavilion behind the visitor center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy music, homemade fruit cobblers, and root beer floats. Admission will be charged at the gift shop and there will be an additional cost for cobbler and floats. Looking ahead…LoriG Comedy returns to Terrace 27 at The Pour House at Machinery Hall on Saturday, July 15. Join me as I feature for Lindsay Glazer (Las Vegas) on the rooftop stage. Performing guest spots will be Torre Elliott, Greg Routt, and McKenzie Reutinger. On July 22 celebrate the completion of the HVAC for the Majestic Theatre in their now air-conditioned building with a great night of music from McGuffey Lane.
