Matters of Graves Importance: Got New Year's Eve plans? Let Lori help you out

Happy Holidays! Did everyone survive the bomb cyclone? Or as we used to call it, a winter storm? When did we start using fancy names for storms?

I remember when a storm was just a storm and we only named hurricanes. Now every weather event gets a name. Look, I survived the blizzard of ‘78 and that is what we still call it…the Blizzard of ‘78. I have yet to hear anyone refer to “winter storm Kevin” that happened in the late 70s and caused me to go to school for only nine days in the month of February. It also ruined my birthday party that year. You know what, on second thought…heck with Kevin of ‘78.

Tonight join Justin Wood at Steiner’s Speakeasy at 7 p.m. for two rounds of Bar Trivia and Name that Tune. Every show is a new category and teams of up to four people are eligible to play. You can also play Name That Tune at Dickey's Barbecue from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. There will be four rounds of music and a $20 gift card for first place.

On Friday Cameron Mitchell Karaoke returns to the Dock at Water at 7 p.m. Steiner’s hosts the rescheduled Josh Morningstar show with special guest Ben Davis Jr. Morningstar has shared the stage with some of today’s most sought after folk and country artists including Shooter Jennings, Cody Jinks, and Tyler Childers. Tickets are $10 on Eventbrite or $15 at the door. The Tippy can be found at Old Capitol Brewing from 8 to 11 p.m. and the Poverty String Band Trio plays Fifty West Brewing at 8 p.m.

The Ohio State game is making NYE celebrations a little tricky but some of your local establishments will still be in the party mood. The Crosskeys Tavern is celebrating with the band Thicc Bois in the front bar starting at 8 p.m. and at 10 p.m. DJ Jones takes over O’Malleys. The ‘Keys kitchen will be open until 2 a.m. on NYE for your late-night munchie needs. Patrick’s Pub in the Quality Inn is offering free hats and horns, free jukebox, drink specials, and 10% off a hotel room for Pub guests. The Wobbly Ghost Tavern is planning an all black party, a DJ, specialty drinks, and a midnight champagne toast. Old Capitol Brewing is teaming up with Maria Cunningham and The Market at Schlegel's. They will be serving delicious food while OCB will be serving up delicious craft brews, bourbon, and signature cocktails. To reserve a food spot, please contact Maria at 740-649-7954. Wagner's Roadhouse will be hosting cornhole, darts, flip cup, and beer pong with an open jukebox.

Looking ahead…I will be starting my New Year doing what I love at Wiley’s Comedy Club in Dayton where I will be headlining on Jan. 6 and 7. Both evenings have a showtime of 8 p.m. Tickets are available online at wileyscomedy.com or by calling 937-224-5653 only. No door sales. Featuring for me will be the very funny Mark Perkins.

The Paul Francis Quartet will perform on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Majestic Theatre Chillicothe. Tickets are available on the theatre website. Grammy Award winning drummer, educator, and Chillicothe native Francis is featured on the Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett album “Cheek to Cheek.” Paul has recorded and/or performed with Stevie Wonder, Jose Feliciano, Jim Belushi, Molly Ringwald, Megan Hilty, The Rockettes, Ralph Lalama, Brian Newman, Rich Little, The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, and The Albany Symphony Orchestra. He has also appeared on shows for HBO, ABC, NBC, Netflix and MTV as well as “A Star is Born” featuring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.

Until next time. I hope to see you out and laughing.
