Matters of Graves Importance: Having fun at the fair while still bringing you entertainment

Do you ever sit around and think “I should be doing something right now but I can’t remember what?“ That is what happened with this week's column. My apologies to the editor for my lateness in turning this in but in my defense, it is Ross County Fair week and I am living that camper life many of us know all too well. I am currently sitting in Frankfort finishing up MOGI on my phone in the parking lot of Friends and Company Beauty & Barber Salon while The Sharon gets her nails done. My dedication to you knows no bounds. Side note, I need to hire a driver for my mother.

Tonight the Larry Elefante Duo will play Steiner’s Speakeasy at 7 p.m. Tara is still working her summer drink menu so stop by and get your last taste of deliciousness before it is too late.

On Friday evening head out Pleasant Valley way to Wagner’s Roadhouse to live out your singing dreams with karaoke by DJ Roush. Fifty West Chillicothe presents a collab tap with GPS100 for a "Post Ride Pale Ale" event. $1 of each pint sold will benefit GPS100 to help develop youth cycling and build and maintain trails at both local state parks. Music from 7 to 10 p.m. will be provided by The Basement Collective.

Our local musician celebrity and my good friend Puma will be the bandstand entertainment at the Ross County Fair on Saturday. If the fair isn’t your thing, stay downtown for the music of Nicholas Clay at Steiner’s.

On Sunday First Capital PRIDE Coalition celebrates Chillicothe PRIDE with their 2nd annual PRIDE Pool Party at the Chillicothe Public Pool. All ages are welcome. There will be a $3 admission with soda, water, and snacks for sale. There will be lifeguards on duty. The event is sponsored by Blosser Law Office and begins at 5 p.m. Shakespeare on Sugarloaf will be presenting one show at 8 p.m. This year's production is The Merry Wives of Windsor. It will be performed by the cast of Tecumseh! and directed by Brent Gibbs. Tickets are free but reservations are required.

Looking ahead…Saturday, Aug. 27 Adena Health Systems, Herrnstein Auto Group, and Fifty West present year two of Sand in the Streets volleyball tournament. From the Facebook event “Downtown Chillicothe is back to unload 300 tons of sand on the streets in downtown and welcome volleyball teams and spectators back for a day of competition, fun, and as close to a beach experience in Chillicothe as you will find. Year two will host 8 competitive teams, 24 recreational teams and four courts.”

Sept. 10 comedian Henry Cho is appearing at the Majestic Theatre and I have the honor of being his host. Henry is well-known as a "clean" comedian forgoing profanity and objectionable material and has sometimes been referred to as "Mr. Clean.” His work can be heard nationwide several times weekly on XM Radio's Channel 151, Laugh USA, Sirius Radio's Blue Collar Radio Channel 103, and Pandora Radio's PG Comedy Radio Channel. Cho is notable for being one of the only Asian acts to appear regularly on the Grand Ole Opry. Cho has also appeared in several television shows and feature films. Tickets available on the Majestic Theatre website or can be purchased in person at the Ross-Chillicothe Convention and Visitors Bureau on North Plaza Blvd.

Until next time. I hope to see you out and laughing.
