Matters of the Graves Importance: Let's not forget about Thanksgiving

I am worried that Thanksgiving is going to disappear and no one is doing anything to stop it. I blame Christmas, Hobby Lobby, and most of you. Yes, I said you.

Thanksgiving is a time for family and friends to get together and be thankful for what we have. It is a time to reflect on the past year and appreciate all the good things that have happened. It is a holiday worth remembering. I think we need to do more to preserve Thanksgiving and we need to make sure this holiday doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

I look at it this way: Thanksgiving is like the middle child between Halloween and Christmas. Halloween is the younger, bratty sibling and Christmas is the older, bossy sibling. How many of you had a childhood with siblings like this? Can you continue to live with yourselves knowing you are allowing Thanksgiving to be mistreated? I mean at this point Groundhog Day gets more respect than Thanksgiving and we don’t even really like groundhogs. They eat our gardens, tear up our yards, and my granny used to shoot at them from her back porch. Plus, groundhogs are terrible weather forecasters. Has a President ever pardoned a groundhog? Nope, but they pardon a turkey or two every year. Think about that.

I ask you to contemplate your actions this coming week and look deep inside yourselves as to your treatment of Thanksgiving. I will reserve the issuing of shame until the end of the month to allow you to change the error of your ways. I am watching you.
