Matters of Graves Importance: Old Capitol Brewing, Dickey's Barbecue, Crosskeys Tavern and more hosting events

One of the things I am thankful for is I have the ability to do is help local organizations with fundraiser comedy events. Last Saturday, I teamed up with the United Way for a show at Creekside Occasions and I would like to thank the following businesses and people for sponsoring a table with food. Shout outs go to Up in Smoke, The Wobbly Ghost Tavern, Buckeye Designs & Engraving, Mister Sub, The Dock at Water, Sarah Claytor and Wesbanco, and The Pour House at Machinery Hall. Please support these folks. Their generosity made our event a big success. The following venues would appreciate your support as well for providing you with great entertainment.

Tonight join Steiner's Speakeasy in welcoming West Virginia singer/songwriter Sam Eplin to their stage. The music starts at 8 p.m. Old Capitol Brewing brings back trivia at 6:30 p.m. and this week's theme is "2022 In Review." Name That Tune is at Dickey's Barbecue from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Crosskeys Tavern is giving you a two band Thursday with the BBJ Project and Stateside Red from 8 to 11 p.m. If you feel like getting out of town for a few I will be heading down to Jackson and Stockroom601 for trivia at 7 p.m.

Friday night comedy can be found at Mikey’s Sports Bar on Eastern Avenue with me and Jesse Nutt. This is a no cover event and the laughs begin at 9 p.m. Jesse has over 5,000 shows under his belt and has opened for the likes of Chris Rock, Steve Harvey, and Chapelle. Danny Hines will appear on the Old Capitol Brewing stage at 7 p.m. and Cameron Mitchell Karaoke will be at the Dock at Water.

Micah Kesselring brings award-winning Appalachia country blues from the Hocking Hills of Ohio to Steiner’s on Saturday while Six To Noon takes the stage at Kings Inn Tavern in Kingston. Moldy Money brings their music to the Crosskeys at 9 p.m. Hickory & Thistle at the Lancaster Golf Club in Lancaster is bringing you another fabulously hilarious comedy night with me and Rob Wilfong. The doors open at 7 p.m. for food and drinks and the show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12 and are available on Eventbrite. As of print time there are less than ten tickets remaining.

Looking ahead…The Pump House Center for the Arts presents “The Best of Ross County,” an exhibition of artwork created by Ross County students grades nine through twelve. The exhibition dates are Feb. 1 through the 25 at the Pump House. The show will feature 70 to 80 pieces of art and is free and open to the public. For more information and entry contact the PHCA at (740) 772-5783. The opening reception and awards presentation will be on Thursday, February 2 at 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

The Paul Francis Quartet will perform on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Majestic Theatre Chillicothe. Tickets are available on the theatre website. Grammy Award winning drummer, educator, and Chillicothe native Francis is featured on the Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett album “Cheek to Cheek.” Paul has recorded and/or performed with Stevie Wonder, Jose Feliciano, Jim Belushi, Molly Ringwald, Megan Hilty, The Rockettes, Ralph Lalama, Brian Newman, Rich Little, The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, and The Albany Symphony Orchestra. He has also appeared on shows for HBO, ABC, NBC, Netflix and MTV as well as “A Star is Born” featuring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.

Until next time. I hope to see you out and laughing.
