Matters of Graves Importance: Open mic night at Patrick's Pub, comedy at Heroes on Blain Highway

If you have been wondering what the CCT has been up to, grab a seat and let me tell you. The Chillicothe Civic Youth Theatre cordially invites you to an underwater adventure as they present "Disney's Finding Nemo Jr." This captivating production will be showcased over the course of two consecutive weekends, Feb. 8 to 11 and Feb. 15 to 18. Nemo enthusiasts of all ages are invited to attend this family friendly, 60-minute musical adaptation of the 2003 Pixar classic. For tickets, visit cctoh.booktix.com. Thursday

Grab those instruments and head to Patrick’s Pub for open mic night. Signups start at 6 p.m. and music begins at 7 p.m. Hosted by Dannie Sutherland and Jake Pool, each mic artist gets stage time for three songs or 15 minutes. Downtown, jazz quartet JRDN & CO will play The Page from 7 to 10 p.m. I will be in Jackson at Stockroom601 for my comedy open mic at 7:30 p.m. Fourteen comics are on the lineup doing five minutes each plus World Series of Comedy 2023 winner Kenny Mock will be closing out the show.

Friday

Cory Breth returns to Old Capitol Brewing this evening. Check him out in the taproom from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Heroes on Blain Highway hosts Karaoke Night from 8 p.m. to midnight. You can also find karaoke at Wagner’s Roadhouse hosted by DJ Roush from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Saturday

LoriG Comedy will be at Heroes on Blain Highway for comedy. The lineup includes Ian Miller, RJ Creamer, McKenzie Reutinger, Bo McCoy, and Niki Ryan. There is no cover charge, and the event is open to those aged 21 and over. Old Capitol Brewing is celebrating their third birthday with an all day bash featuring live music from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Ben True, Nolan Collins, Matt Salyers, and The Tippy will play in that order. Up In Smoke food truck will be on Paint Street for your hunger from all of the fun needs. Wheatberry Books presents “An Evening with J.R. Barnes” from 6 to 8 p.m. Local author and musician Barnes will read passages from his books, field a Q&A session, and do a meet and greet with opportunities to purchase signed copies of Sailing Home and The Blue Rose. Complimentary refreshments provided. Tickets to this event are free, but seating is limited. At 7:30 p.m. Peach Jam takes the stage at The Pour House at Machinery Hall. Looking ahead

Ohio University Chillicothe and LoriG Comedy present Beginning Comedy Workshop starting on March 11. The three-class course is $45 and aims to help you prepare your first five-minute set. If you are interested in starting a comedy journey or just want to check off a bucket list item then this workshop is for you.
