Matters of Graves Importance: Some post-Thanksgiving Day activities

Happy Thanksgiving my friends. I hope today finds you spending time with the people you love and you have something to be thankful for. We live in a crazy, fast-paced world full of sorrow and sadness. Sometimes it is difficult to focus on the good in our lives because we are reminded daily of the chaos around us. When I find myself in this situation I look around at what I do have which is a roof over my head, clothes on my back, and food on my table and suddenly I remember that I am ok.

For some, it takes the holiday season to realize how fortunate they are but it is really something we should look at all year long. Thanksgiving every day. Well, maybe not the huge meals every day but the feelings that go along with it. You know what I mean.

I would like to thank the Shine On Chillicothe group for the outstanding effort they put in to make our community soooo extra this holiday season. And by extra you will see what I mean when you cruise through the park to check out their work because it is lit up like an airport runway. I wouldn’t be surprised if Chillicothe made alien contact before 2023 after this display. I will definitely be adding Yoctangee Park to the list of places for my upcoming local bus tour of lights.

There are a few events happening this weekend. Most local watering hole establishments are open on Thanksgiving evening. Check with your favorite spots for their holiday hours.

Saturday, Nov. 26 Merry and Bright in the Village is being held at the Masonic Lodge 23 in Frankfort. Start your holiday shopping with handmade items by several local vendors. This event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For evening fun The Tippy returns to the Crosskeys Tavern at 8 p.m.

Kids 12 and under are welcome at Fifty West on Sunday at 4 p.m. for Kids Trivia. Prizes for the top three places.

Looking ahead…Dec. 1 join me in Jackson at the Stockroom for open mic comedy with closer Wyatt Lutz. On Dec. 3 I am back at the SR601 for a show where I will be co-headlining with Jay Snyder.

Santa is coming to the Pour House for brunch on Sunday, December 11! Call 740-771-4770 to reserve your table. The menu they put together is amazing.

LoriG and Cameron's Chillicothe Tour of Lights with First Capital Enterprises, INC. begins Dec. 11! Brighten your holiday season with a 90-minute bus tour of lights. Lori G (me) will narrate the ride showing you the best of the best Christmas lights in Chillicothe PLUS carols by Cam in between stops. The tour will visit Steiner's Speakeasy at the halfway mark for a 15-20 minute drink/restroom break where Tara Gillum will be crafting a special cocktail. Each trip will begin and end at The Pour House at Machinery Hall. Two ten-person tours a night, 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. respectively, on December 11, 16, 18, and 23. Tickets are available on Eventbrite. RIDERS MUST BE 21 AND UP WITH PROPER ID. No exceptions. This event is not for children. Proceeds benefit First Capital Enterprises and their clients.

Dec. 11 enjoy an evening with the Columbus Symphony for their Holiday Pops Spectacular at Ohio University Chillicothe at 5 p.m. Tickets are available on Eventbrite or at the Ross-Chillicothe Convention and Visitors Bureau on North Plaza Boulevard.
