Matters of Graves Importance: Saturday's entertainment is packed

The entertainment scene in Chillicothe is buzzing with activity. There is always something new to see or do, from concerts and plays to art exhibits and festivals. In this column, I love highlighting some of the best entertainment options our city has to offer. Whether you are looking for a night out on the town or something to do with the family, be sure to check out what's happening every week in Matters of Graves Importance.

My comedy open mic returns to Old Capitol Brewing at 7:30 p.m. tonight. Join me as I welcome funny people from all over the region to the taproom stage. Anchorhouse Rolling Bistro will be out front from 5 to 9 p.m."Music In the Park ALL 80's NIGHT" with DJ Hazel is from 5 to 9 p.m. in Yoctangee Park weather permitting. This event is free and open to the public. Hazel presents this fun time every week with a different theme.

On Friday the "Art Night Market" opens at 6 p.m. in front of Rose Quartz Candles at 47 North Paint Street. Each week Cassie features artists who sell their wares in her cool metaphysical store out front on the sidewalk. After you shop the market, keep walking 450 feet and you will find Matt Salyers live at Old Capitol Brewing from 7 to 10 p.m. Emmitt Cunningham brings his country and 90's covers show to the Pour House at 7:30 pm.

Saturday's local entertainment is crazy packed. You may need to sit down and take notes while reading what is coming next.

The Great Seal of Ohio Band will be performing a concert at Calvary Lutheran Church at 7 p.m. Saturday. The concert will be in the air-conditioned sanctuary and there will be an ice cream social in the fellowship hall following the concert. Help celebrate the completion of the HVAC for the Majestic Theatre with McGuffey Lane in the theatre’s new, air-conditioned space. Tickets can be purchased at majesticchillicothe.net/events or at the door until they sell out. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and showtime is 7:30 p.m. Down the street and around the corner from the Majestic, Cin City Burlesque returns to Steiner's Speakeasy at 9 p.m. Each dancer will perform three sets in this high-energy traveling show. There will be a $5 cover at the door.

But wait, I wasn’t kidding. There is still more for Saturday.

Recording artist Matt Stillwell brings his hits to the Pour House at Machinery Hall at 8 p.m. Matt’s debut single “Shine” debuted at #25 on iTunes Country Chart and reached the top 50 on Billboard’s Country Charts. Go to pouronchillicothe.com for VIP table purchase. Table prices include a complimentary bottle of champagne or a complimentary bucket of domestic beer. Call 740-771-4770 to reserve. Fifty West Brewing Company will hold a drum circle on their patio hosted by Cindi Hedderson Whaley at 6 p.m. and you can find Garage Fire unplugged at The Page from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Head to the edge of town for the music of Lori Pritchard at Wagner's Roadhouse from 8 to 11 p.m.

Looking ahead, this one from my friend is long overdue. “The Art of Michael Warth” solo exhibition will run the month of August at the Pump House Center for the Arts. Sponsored by Globe Furniture, Warth will be featuring new art and work from the studio not previously for sale such as oil paintings, drawings, and watercolor paintings. The opening reception will be Friday, August 4 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. followed by an after party at Old Capital Brewing.

Until next time. I hope to see you out and laughing.
