By now your littles (and not so littles) have returned to school. Every fall social media pokes fun at parents posting back-to-school photos and I am here to tell you please keep posting. I speak for most of this reading audience when I say we would much rather see a picture of your kid than read a post complaining about potholes or that elusive Chillicothe splash pad. Something that isn’t difficult to find is local entertainment and here are my weekend picks for you.

On Friday head to Old Capitol Brewing for the music of Nolan Collins at 8 p.m. Amvets Post #4 welcomes the public to their Steak and Dinner Dance beginning at 5 p.m. Pre-sale dinner tickets are available from Amvets bartenders. Dinners include a ribeye, baked potato, green beans, garden salad, dinner roll, and dessert for $18. DJ Roush and Wagner's Roadhouse present karaoke at 7 p.m and Jerry’s West has the music of Todd Vanover at 8 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 27 Adena Health Systems, Herrnstein Auto Group, and Fifty West present year two of the Sand in the Streets. From the Facebook event “…Downtown Chillicothe is back to unload 300 tons of sand on the streets in downtown and welcome volleyball teams and spectators back for a day of competition, fun, and as close to a beach experience in Chillicothe as you will find. Year two will host 8 competitive teams, 24 recreational teams and four courts.”

For entertainment outside of downtown Dumptruck Boogey will play the Zane Tavern at 8 p.m and Moldy Money will be at Naz Vineyard and Winery at 7 p.m. Also, in the afternoon, the Lucy Webb Hayes Heritage Center presents “Ice Cream Social for Lucy's 2022 Birthday.” Chillicothe's First Lady, Lucy Webb Hayes, was born on August 28th, 1831. Tours of the birthplace are available from 1 to 2 p.m. The social will follow at 2 p.m. Admission is free with a suggested donation of $5 for adults and $3 for children to enjoy ice cream, cakes, lemonade, and other refreshments.

Looking ahead…Friday, Sept. 23 comedy returns to Terrace 27 at the Pour House at Machinery Hall. Tickets on sale on the PH website on August 29. Joining me on the rooftop will be Karen Jaffe and Andy Frampton. Buy early because the last show quickly sold out. VIP packages and preferred seating tickets will be available.

Saturday, Sept. 24 is Chili-Fest time. Team information can be obtained on Eventbrite by searching “Chili-Fest 2022.” Teams can also enter for FREE on the same site. The fest opens at noon to the public and entry is $5. Kids 12 and under are free. Classic Brands and Pepsi products will be available for purchase. All proceeds from Chili-Fest go to the local Rock for Tots organization.

Sept. 10 comedian Henry Cho is appearing at the Majestic Theatre and I have the honor of being his host. Henry is well-known as a "clean" comedian forgoing profanity and objectionable material and has sometimes been referred to as "Mr. Clean.” Cho is notable for being one of the only Asian acts to appear regularly on the Grand Ole Opry. He has also appeared in several television shows and feature films. Tickets are available on the Majestic Theatre website or can be purchased in person at the Ross-Chillicothe Convention and Visitors Bureau on North Plaza Blvd.

Until next time. I hope to see you out and laughing.
