Oh the weather outside is frightful…because it is January. What I find particularly humorous about winter is the element of surprise that some people exhibit upon its arrival. It is as if they are genuinely astonished by the onset of winter, despite the fact that it happens every year about this time.

This extreme cold is a bit much but then again, so are 50-degree days in January and it may very well be that in a week or so. It should never be 50 degrees in January in Ohio. I know where I live. I live where it is supposed to be cold in certain months of the year and where it is supposed to be hot in certain months of the year. The other months are a gamble where you run your heater in the morning, leave the house wearing a sweater, and by the afternoon you have stripped down to a tank top with the a/c blaring. THIS IS WHERE WE LIVE. Appease Mother Nature by staying entertained. Check out the following events happening in our area this week.

Thursday

The Cozy Inn Bar & Grill is hosting Music Bingo at 6:30 p.m. Happy hour is from 2 to 6 p.m. and the grill is open until 8 p.m. It is trivia night at Old Capitol Brewing! The theme this week is all things Taylor Swift. OCB said to tell you to “...bring a squad of Swifties, shake it off, and take home the Taylor trivia trophy” because I would have never thought of typing that on my own.

Friday

Tonight, the Richmond Dale and Londonderry fellas who make up Mulgee Run want to see YOU at The Pour House at Machinery Hall at 7:30 p.m. Call 740-771-4770 to reserve your table. Make your way to Jerry's Pizza West to enjoy the musical stylings of local favorite Good N Stout. Their tunes begin at 8 p.m. Downtown, at Steiner’s Speakeasy, the music starts at 9 p.m. with singer/songwriter Nicholas Clay. Get your karaoke on at Heroes Pub Pizza & Subs (2254 Blain Highway) at 8 p.m. At 7 p.m. Danny Hines returns to the Old Capitol Brewing taproom stage. Karaoke is happening at Wagner’s Roadhouse with DJ Roush from 7 to 11 p.m.

Saturday

McKenna McFadden is back on the stage after bringing a beautiful baby girl into the world and you can see her return at Kings Inn Tavern in Kingston at 8 p.m. Soul Secrets will play The Page from 8 to 11 p.m.

Looking ahead

On Saturday, January 27, The Lonely Ones will be playing live at the Majestic Theatre Chillicothe. They are a four-piece vocal-oriented hard rock band “...with an ear for melody and a taste for success.” Tickets are on sale now at majesticchillicothe.net. While you are there check out all of the shows the theatre has coming up in February.

Feb. 10 LoriG Comedy heads to Heroes on Blain Highway for Comedy Night featuring Ian Miller, RJ Creamer, McKenzie Reutinger, and Niki Ryan. No cover, 21 and up.

Until next time. I hope to see you out laughing.
