Matters of Graves Importance: Try and keep up with all the events upcoming

Hear ye, hear ye…the next two months are insanely busy in the Ross County area for entertainment. My advice? Stay hydrated and try to keep up.

Thursday

Scott Minar and Nevada Hart will be performing from 7 to 9 p.m. every Thursday at Patrick's Pub until further notice.

Old Capitol Brewing hosts a Back to School trivia night tonight at 6:30 p.m. Players can participate solo or in teams of up to 6 people and there will be a prize for the top team.

The opening reception for The Hills, a local art competition, is from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Pump House Center for the Arts in Yoctangee Park. The exhibition is sponsored by Kingston National Bank.

Dickey's Barbecue is hosting Name That Tune with DJ Roush. There will be four rounds of music trivia and a $20 gift card for the first-place winner.

First Capital Rotary’s “Draft$ for Dollar$” will be held at The Pour House at Machinery Hall from 6 to 9 p.m. The Rotary and the Pour House will donate $2 to Ruck 22, a Veterans Suicide Awareness Group, for every draft purchased.

Friday

The End of Summer Bash is a free event on Friday, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., at First Capital Enterprises on Douglas Avenue. The event will feature music by Felony4, food trucks Up in Smoke and Funnelcake Fantasy, cornhole with the Ross County Trailblazers team, and a whiskey wheel raffle run by Trish Wallace and me.

Gustavo’s International Cuisine is having a live music performance by the Sugarloaf Shakedown from 6 to 9 p.m.

Local favorite Zac McFadden will perform in the OCB taproom from 7 to 10 p.m.

DJ Chris Mickey will be spinning the tunes at the Cozy Inn Bar & Grill for Friday Night Lights starting at 9 p.m.

Saturday

On Saturday I am heading to Richmond Dale to the Salt Creek Valley Festival where I will emcee the stage from 8 p.m. to midnight welcoming musicians Preston Dailey and Greg Higley.

The Brent Davis Kingston Classic car show will be held at Kingston Village Park. Registration starts at 4 p.m. and awards will be given out at 7 p.m. Trophies will be awarded to the top 3 cars in each class: 2000-2023, 1980-1999, 1979 & under, and best in show. There will also be a fish fry, a DJ, and a 50/50 raffle.

The final drum circle of the season at Fifty West Brewery will be held at 6 p.m. The event is free to attend and open to the public.

If you feel like heading to Wilmington I found an event for you named Hobbit Hoedown, a “hobbit-themed dance and party featuring traditional Celtic and English folk dances, games, refreshments, and a talent show by firelight.” Tickets are $30 and they are available on Eventbrite. If you want to participate in the talent show email larpshirebusiness@gmail.com with your name and a brief description of your act. The dress code for the evening is no modern clothing and if you attend I need a full report.

Sunday

The Renaissance Singers cordially invite you to “TV Time,” a concert featuring the group's renditions of your favorite TV musical themes. The concert will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, in the basement of the First Presbyterian Church. Admission is free, and ice cream sundaes will be served.

Looking ahead

My Beginning Comedy workshop begins on Sept. 11 at Ohio University Chillicothe from 6 to 8 p.m. The class is held on three consecutive Monday evenings. Visit ohio.edu for more information. The workshop costs $40 and space is extremely limited. Registration ends on Sept. 8.

Until next time. I hope to see you out and laughing.
