Matters of Graves Importance: Wingfest highlights First Thursday event

July showed up and it brought you a whole lot of events to heat up our local entertainment scene. Tonight, First Capital Rotary presents Wingfest for this month's First Thursday event. Head downtown to the Majestic Theatre courtyard for a side of music by the Kenny Valentine Band to accompany your wings. As of this being sent to print, wings are being presented by The Pour House, Kroger, Longhorn Steakhouse, Tumbleweed Tex-Mex Grill, Fifty West Chillicothe, Dickey's BBQ, and Taesty's Food Truck. Non-alcoholic beverages and Budweiser products will also be available for purchase. All proceeds from this event go back into our community.

Friday, July 8 join me for Barn on Blain Comedy with Christine Horvath, Halima Abshir, and Chris Siemer. Hosted by me. This is a BYOB event and Christopher Colõn will be on site with his amazing pizzas for your dining needs. For music check out Joseph, Barnes & Thacker at Old Capitol Brewing from 7 to 10 p.m. While you are there ask Rick Barnes about his new e-book, "Sailing Home." It is available on Amazon, Kindle, Apple, Barnes and Noble, and Kobo with a print copy coming this fall. A blurb about the book from Rick’s Facebook wall…”It is December 1811, and the political winds of war against Great Britain are swirling through the halls of the nation's capital. The U.S. Navy informs Captain Marin Carpenter they are in the process of commandeering his merchant ship.” Purchasing his book would be a great way to support local arts not to mention the fact that Rick is a pretty cool dude.

The Paul Francis Quartet will play the Majestic Theatre Chillicothe on Saturday, July 9 at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Paul is a Grammy award winning drummer, educator, and Chillicothe native. He is featured on the Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett album “Cheek to Cheek'' and has recorded with Stevie Wonder, Jose Feliciano, The Rockettes, and the Albany Symphony Orchestra to name a few. Paul has also appeared on shows for HBO, ABC, NBC, Netflix, and MTV. Tickets are available at www.majesticchillicothe.net/tickets or at the door until sold out. Adena Mansion & Garden Society will host their annual Red, White, and Blue Ice Cream Social at their picnic pavilion from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a charge for admission and bringing your own lawn chair is suggested. For more information go to adenamansion.com, email info@adenamansion.com, or call (740) 772-1500. Dumptruck Boogey can be found on the Zane Tavern patio and Zac McFadden plays in his hometown of Bainbridge at the Ironsides Social Riders Event Center from 6 to 9 p.m. Open to the public and no cover.

Sunday Adena Mansion & Gardens will host a vintage “base ball” game between the Adena Worthingtons and the Ohio Village Muffins. From their event…”Bring your blanket or lawn chair and join us on the grounds when the Adena Worthingtons challenge the Ohio Village Muffins, an 1860’s baseball team that plays the game by 19th century rules, in an exhibition game of vintage baseball. The match begins at 2:00 pm. This event is free and open to the public.” In Yoctangee Park, the Tomlinson Group of Keller Williams Excel Realty is hosting Sundaes & Sprinklers from 1 to 3 p.m. Enjoy Highlands’s ice cream, play games, and cool off under the Chillicothe Fire Dept. fire truck sprinklers at this also free and open to the public event. Goodie bags will be passed out on a first come, first serve basis.

I just exhausted myself reading this. Nothing to do in this town? See above.

Until next time. I hope to see you out and laughing.
