Matthew Broussard, E.D. White 2023 offensive lineman, commits to Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns football

E.D. White Catholic 2023 offensive lineman Matthew Broussard has committed to the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns football team.

Broussard announced his commitment on his Twitter account Saturday. He said playing for UL was an opportunity he couldn't pass up.

"I'm very excited. It really is a dream come true for me," Broussard said. "I really wanted this, and I've worked really hard to get to this point."

The 6-foot-4, 275-pound Broussard plays left tackle at E.D. White, but he is expected to move to guard in college. He chose UL over offers from Louisiana-Monroe, Nicholls, Southeastern Louisiana and Northwestern State, according to E.D. White coach Kyle Lasseigne.

Lasseigne said UL football coaches have recruited Broussard heavily at several camps this summer.

"There's not a more deserving athlete than Matt," Lasseigne said. "He transformed himself over his four years to earn a chance to play big-time college football. His work ethic is unmatched. His humility is admired. We wish Matt the best in his promising future."

Broussard said the relationship he developed with UL football coaches and players made a difference in his decision.

"Ever since I went on a visit there, I loved it," Broussard said. "I just loved the atmosphere of it. All of the players were nice and respectful, and I just really wanted to be a part of that. Also the coaches have always shown me lots of love throughout my recruiting process. They would check in on me every once in a while, and that meant a lot to me."

As a junior, Broussard helped E.D. White's offense compile 2,674 rushing yards and 35 touchdowns in 2021 season. He is one of the key contributors along E.D. White's massive offensive line. The Cardinals finished as Division II state runner-up in 2021.

Broussard finished his junior season with many postseason awards, including first-team selections on the District 9-3A team, The Courier and Daily Comet’s Best of Bayou Preps football team and the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 3A team.
