Matthew McConaughey reprising A Time to Kill role in sequel TV series

Matthew McConaughey is set to reprise his role from A Time to Kill in an upcoming sequel series.
Back in 1996, the Oscar winner starred as Jake Brigance in the courtroom crime drama, a Mississippi-based lawyer tasked with defending a man who killed two other men after they brutally assaulted his 10-year-old daughter. Ashley Judd, Samuel L Jackson and Sandra Bullock also starred.
According to Variety, the new show, which is currently in development at HBO, will be based on John Grisham's follow-up book, A Time for Mercy.

Published in 2020, 31 years after the original, the novel centres on Brigance as attempts to clear the name of a young man, who has been accused of murdering his mother's abusive boyfriend.
McConaughey, who recently appeared in Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen, is no stranger to a hard-hitting HBO outing, having previously fronted the first season of True Detective opposite Woody Harrelson. In it, he played Rust Cohle, a homicide investigator haunted by the death of his daughter.

He was supposed to reunite with True Detective showrunner Nic Pizzolatto for FX conspiracy drama Redeemer later this year, but it has since emerged that he has dropped out of the project.
When it comes to movies, McConaughey is currently filming the sequel to the popular animated movie Sing, in which he lends his voice to showbiz-loving koala Buster Moon.
