It was a somewhat quiet 2022 for Matthew McConaughey, at least onscreen. Austin’s most notable actor didn’t have a single movie or TV role released last year, according to IMDB. (McConaughey did, however, narrate the Texas nature documentary “Deep In the Heart.”)

But one month in, 2023 is shaping up to be the Year of All Right.

1. Matthew McConaughey is playing Elvis in a new Netflix show

McConaughey news item the first: He voices Elvis Presley in the upcoming Netflix animated series "Agent Elvis," which is, quite hallucinatorily, a violent and profanity-peppered story about the King of Rock & Roll as a secret agent.

The trailer dropped on Monday. According to Netflix, the show will premiere in March. Priscilla Presley (Presley's ex-wife) and musician John Eddie created the show. McConaughey is among the executive producers, according to Variety.

"Elvis Presley always dreamed of being a superhero — now, Priscilla Presley is making his dream a reality!" McConaughey tweeted.

"In the series, Elvis Presley trades in his white jumpsuit for a jet pack when he is covertly inducted into a secret government spy program to help battle the dark forces that threaten the country he loves — all while holding down his day job as the King Of Rock And Roll," Netflix's official description reads.

2. Matthew McConaughey might join the 'Yellowstone' franchise

McConaughey news item the second: He might be joining the "Yellowstone" universe. According to Deadline and the Hollywood Reporter, neither of which named a source, he's in talks to star in a "franchise extension" of the wildly popular Paramount TV show.

Matthew McConaughey stands on the sideline before Texas' annual spring football game at Royal-Memorial Stadium on April 23, 2022. According to reports, the actor might be joining the "Yellowstone" franchise.

Now, back to "Agent Elvis": Based on the trailer, McConaughey sure didn't try to emulate Presley's voice, did he? There's gotta be a happy medium between that and whatever Austin Butler's got going on.
