Matthew Modine wants to be on ‘Stranger Things’ again

Stranger things have happened.

Even though Matthew Modine’s character on the hit Netflix series “Stranger Things” appeared to die after getting shot by a sniper in Season 4, he’s hinted that he would love to return to his role as mad scientist Dr. Martin Brenner.

“My desire to return to ‘Stranger Things’ is natural, don’t you think?” Modine said.

“Brenner is a fascinating character. I’d like to explore the character more deeply. I believe there’s so much more to understand,” he told the Daily News.

Modine, 63, is curious to explore why Dr. Brenner was the person chosen to lead the experiments with Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown, and the other children who were held at Hawkins lab. “What are his qualifications and specific skills? Why did the government select him? I believe you don’t randomly hire a person to do a job like that,” he said.

Modine then drops a tantalizing clue, saying, “He would have to have his own special abilities and skills. Right?”

Set in the 1980s, in the fictional town of Hawkins, Ind., “Stranger Things” centers on a group of adolescents who experience supernatural events occurring around the town. The show also stars Winona Ryder and David Harbour.

Commonly referred to as “Papa” by the show’s heroine Eleven, Brenner was shot several times in the fourth season’s penultimate episode. Netflix released the fourth season of “Stranger Things” earlier this year. A fifth and final season is set to arrive at a yet-to-be-announced date.

Modine, together with his daughter, “Shameless” star Ruby Rivera Modine, will launch in October a line of responsible mercury-free jewelry with environmental nonprofit Pure Earth, featuring pieces by more than 30 designers, supporting efforts to restore land damaged by mining in the Amazon rainforest.

“I am honored to be the daughter of the infamous Dr. Brenner,” said Ruby Modine.

“An acting coach once told me that the kindest actors play the best mean and evil characters, and this is a great example of that.”
