Matthews police chief retires, town officials say
Matthews Police Chief Clark A. Pennington resigned Friday, the town confirmed in a news release.

He resigned “in order to retire from law enforcement and pursue another opportunity,” the news release stated.
Pennington was named chief of the Matthews Police Department on Dec. 18, 2017, according to the town’s website. He became chief the following month.
“One of the highlights of my career was serving the great Town of Matthews alongside some of the most impressive, caring, and compassionate police officers I have had the pleasure of meeting in nearly 30 years of service,” Pennington stated in the news release.
Major Roy Sisk will be in command until an interim chief is named.
Pennington joined the U.S. Army in 1992 for six years and then joined the Frederick Police Department in Maryland after his time in the service.

Pennington’s resignation is effective immediately.
